We collect only what's needed to run DogMap. We do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever.
1. Who We Are
DogMap is a community dog park finder for Auckland, New Zealand. This policy explains how we collect, use and store information about you when you use the site.
2. What Information We Collect
When you sign in with Google:
- Your Google display name
- Your Google profile photo
- Your Google account unique ID (used to identify your account internally)
We do not access your email address, contacts, Google Drive or any other Google account data beyond what you explicitly see displayed on screen.
When you use features on the site:
- Dog profiles — name, breed, age and photos you choose to upload
- Comments — text you submit on park pages
- Events — event details and RSVP records you create or join
- Photos — images you upload to park pages
- Park, trainer & cafe submissions — information you submit for review
Automatically collected:
- Basic usage data via Google Firebase (page loads, errors) — this is anonymous and used only to keep the site running
3. How We Use Your Information
- To display your name and photo alongside content you create (comments, events, etc.)
- To associate your dog profiles with your account
- To allow other users to see who is attending events
- To allow admins to review park, trainer and cafe submissions
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than operating DogMap.
4. Who Can See Your Information
- Other users can see your display name, profile photo, dog profiles and content you post publicly (comments, events, photos)
- Site admins can see submission details for moderation purposes
- No one else — we do not share your data with third parties
5. Third-Party Services
DogMap is built on the following third-party platforms, each with their own privacy policies:
- Google Firebase (Firestore, Auth, Storage) — data is stored on Google's servers. See Firebase Privacy
- Google Maps — used to display the map. See Google Privacy Policy
- Google Sign-In — used for authentication. See Google Privacy Policy
6. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in Google Firebase data centres. We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. You use DogMap at your own risk.
Photos you upload are stored in Firebase Storage. Profile photos from Google are stored on Google's servers and linked by URL.
7. Your Rights (NZ Privacy Act 2020)
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the feedback option in the app. We will respond within 20 working days as required by the Privacy Act.
8. Deleting Your Data
You can delete individual content (comments, events, dog profiles) directly within the app. To request full deletion of your account and all associated data, contact us and we will action this within 20 working days.
9. Children's Privacy
DogMap is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
